I had finals until Dec. 23rd, so Christmas came and went with out much thought from me. But I did manage to do some Christmas "baking" (well, really it's was dipping). Those coconut covered marshmallows taste really yummy with chocolate on them!

There is a popcorn store about a 1/2 hours from our house, but it has bunk operating hours so we can never get there. I decided to take matters into my own hands with some microwave popcorn and white and milk chocolate with a splash of cashews! I also saved about $25 and a quarter tank of gas by doing it myself. It tasted exactly the same! You pop the corn (the one pictured is the best kind), mix it with a couple handfuls of cashews and melted white chocolate (I used almond bark) spread it out on a cookie sheet and drizzle melted milk chocolate on top. Then devour!

It's been a while since my last post, but really nothing has happened. NOTHING. No fun vacations, no fun nights out, we are officially blah. Are people even still checking this blog?

I'm almost done with my 3rd semester and then I have 2 more to go. Bill has 2 more semesters to go, but his are a little shorter and he will graduate a couple months before me. We are so sick of school, homework, and tuition! But grateful we can do it. I am grateful for Bill working so hard so we can have a place to live with food in our bellies. He has been really great.

This is what nursing school will do to a binder in 9 months! Never in my entire life have I worn out a binder like this.

We had a nice small Thanksgiving at home with family and friends. Bill cooked the best turkey I've ever eaten...

Here's our tree, I can't wait until Christmas b/c finals are over the day before!!! I have been looking forward to this day all year!

This is the best fortune in the world. It says, "you will travel to many places". I am assuming it isn't talking about me just running errands and that is is talking about us traveling the world in a few short (that's what I keep telling myself) months.

Time Flies

More than 8 years ago Bill and I met in college, as poor students.

I was a hairdresser

He was a shoe salesman

Then we moved away so he could be a wheelchair/O2 salesman

And I went to school again

Then we moved back so he could go to school again

And now he is a big man at a desk making big desicions

I am still a scrub.........tech

And both of us are hitting the books

So I can quit doing this


and start doing this And Bill can be this
So we can get out of this

I wonder what I will be saying in the next eight years... Hopefully we wont be poor college students anymore! pssshhhh.

Birthday boy!

Bill turned 32 Mon the 18th. Since we are so busy with school and work during the week we celebrated all weekend. Saturday we went to his favorite restaurant with our moms. The restaurant has 2 male and 2 female peacocks and a cat that rome the grounds, and a koi pond.

The cat walked by our table as we finished our meal and Bill noticed it's name is Tula. Bill's nickname for me is Mrs. Tula! We thought it was pretty cute and had to get a pic!

We have never been able to get the peacock to spread it's feathers when we've gone before, he must have thought since it was Bill's birthday he would do it. I wanted to go pluck him but I am too scared!

So this is a bad hair day for me, just ignore that, but here is the gang!

I studied all day Saturday before we left so I didn't have time to make a cake. We got yummy desserts from the restaurant, and birthday candles were MIA so I improvised, this one smells better anyway!

Making his wish... hope it comes true, it was a good one!

SO, I promise I am a good wife and I did end up making Bill a real birthday cake with real birthday candles. Sunday we had a BBQ with our moms again and we sang and he blew out the candles on his yummy cake and I took pictures and it was a beautiful night. I go to upload the pics to blog and he had already deleted them. Nice! He is happy boy though, he already spent his gift card, uploaded music to his little i-pod, and his nose is hair free!

These make me happy!

I took my first med/surg test last week on Thursday, and by Thurs. night I was sick to my stomach (literally) and I knew I had failed it. I woke up every hour through out the night and before my alarm went off Fri. morning, I started crying. I was wondering what the heck I was going to do if I failed RN school. I talked to my instructor and he said he wouldn't list grades until at least Mon. What the? He made us wait all weekend...not a happy student. And then when I started talking to him about some of the questions and he told me one of the ones I missed, I swore about it and told him that was stupid. There were 2 right answers and I put the most right, but he wanted the 2nd right one.

Anyway, I got my score today and guess what...... I FREAKING PASSED!!! Not only did I pass but I got a much better score than what I thought. So, Bill told me to go reward myself for going through that stress, and since I don't have a dose of Xanax to reward myself with, I got these cute, little girl sized slippers that I can actually shove my big feet into!

P.S. Don't mind the wrinkles all over my ankles, I was sitting on my legs on top of wrinkled pants right before I decided to take a pic!

Masquerade Ball

My friend's family owns a charity that helps people in Kenya called, In our own quiet way. They held a charity masquerade ball event and she was kind enough to let our little study group, from school, tag along.

This is the $15 wedding dress I got at the DI. I had to cover it with a sweater b/c I am not about to let my arms hang all out, but it ended up being a good thing b/c it was freezing! P.S. I am not sitting on my friend, my skirt was huge and it is extra fabric, I promise!!

So, masks look like they would be so much fun and exciting, especially for one's first masquerade ball, but that excitement wore off very quick when we started trying them on. And then once we got to the event, mine was off after a very excruciating five minutes. And I am so not exaggerating!
And some of you asked, so you shall receive. I am not big on butt shots, unless it is Keith Urban or Tim Mcgraw, but peeps asked to see what the back of my dress looked like after I pulled the whole train up. There you go. Hope you are happy! I look so elegantly uncomfortable, don't I!?!

Expensive 2nd hand store

The D.I. (Goodwill) by my house drives me nuts. They think it's not a second hand store and price things outrageously high. It is only once in a while that I actually find a good deal at that particular store location.

Well, I got invited to this masquerade ball of a charity for Kenya. I have ABSOLUTELY nothing to wear, oh and did I mention, I'm in RN school, therefor funding is sparse. I decided to check out the goods at the D.I....um and they were less than good, unless it was a 70's party. Then I saw the rack of wedding dresses and figured if the price was right, even if I didn't like the dress, maybe I could just use the fabric an create my own dress.

None of the prices were right.

I found a dress that was once $250, then stickered over with $150, there were 3 price tags on this number and the last tag I looked at said $50.

So, I marched right over to management and asked for a discount. They guy pulled out his little sticker gun, twisted some knobs, then grabbed the tag on my dress and stuck a $15 sticker on it. SCORE!!
This is kinda the style of my dress. The train is pretty long and unnecessary for my event so I had to figure out a way to get rid of it without taking up all my time.

I gathered a few layers and sewed them together, but I wasn't happy with it. It just looked kind of blah.

So I gathered a few more layers, but this time to the sides of the center and I think it may work. I am sick of trying it on though! We will see on Friday if it works! If it does then I will post a pic of the whole thing.

So, a long time ago, I kind of thought that those who just posted about their projects and not so much about their family were a little self-centered. And then I became obsessed with all the craft blogs out there, an I figured if I like looking at others projects, maybe someone will like learning mine. SO now I am one of those that posts about all my projects and not of my family. But really, we are boring right now so I have done my readers a favor.

But, here is Bill and his mom. No event or good story came with these pics, like I said we are boring!

Saved me some moolah!

remember this scarf from Anthro? It was a whopping $98, ummm no thanks. Love, love it but tuition and rent unfortunately come first. SO I made my own... With out the fringe. All my scarves have fringe, so over it!
First off, I got elastic thread, and you have to hand wind it around the bobbin (not too tight). You still will use regular thread for the top.

Then i went and picked out some knit material. The best thing about knit...no hemming required! I HATE hemming! Make sure the fabric is about 1.5 times longer than you want the scarf. Cut the scarf the width you want and sew strait lines down the length. I sewed 5 lines on this one.

Now I have me a cute anthro inspired scarf. I spent about a $23 on the fabric and thread. With the left over fabric I was able to make a halter (below), another scarf, and still trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the scrap.

You may have to enlarge the pic to see the detail since it is black. But I love the way it turned out!

And then there is this shirt...another one from Anthropology. $78, still, not with in my price range. There are a couple things I love, and a couple things I am not really into. The gathering on the side is a cute way to add a waist, but I wasn't crazy for it. And I thought all the flowers around the neckline might be a little too much for me.

So, instead of the gather on the waist, I gathered the bottom of the sides with the elastic thread.

I turned it into a halter. I have a weakness for ribbon and halters!

I only added 3 flowers and rolled them with the knit and a soft tulle.

I didn't want the flowers to be sticking too far off the shirt, so I tried to make them as thin as I could. I love the sheen that the tulle gives, with out them looking sparkley!
