get 'er done!

I found out that I will be meeting my MIL in a few weeks and decided that maybe should get some projects that are lying around the house done so she doesn't think I am a slob! I had the maintenance guy at work cut some wood for me to make some signs, then I had a girl at work make me some vinyl sticker words from her cricut (spelling).

I fist painted them the color that I wanted the letters to be

Then I placed the vinyl on top and sprayed with that very same color (this helps with bleeding underneath the stickers. Whatever bleeds will be the underlying color) When this dried, I left the letters on and sprayed a different color on top. When it was all dry I started to peel the stickers off.

I had to do a little bit of touching up where the wood had big divots and the top color bled under the stickers. Wasn't bad though. Then I sanded and distressed the signs.

Then I used the same process for the "Wish upon a starfish" sign but I used scrapbook letter stickers. I wasn't very smart though and forgot to paint the under color on top of the stickers before applying the top color. When I took the stickers off the letters were almost unrecognizable because all the white bled and covered the brown letters. I tried to free hand it but not to impressed :( Oh well! I gave a sign like this to my mom for Mother's day and my cute little nephew said, "wish upon a starfish, that's kind of weird!" So now I am self-conscious and don't know if I still like it!! haha funny how a 5 year old can do that, but he is so dang cute and smart I can't help but listen to his opinion! I'll give it some time I guess...

Race for the Cure 2010

My mom and I did the Race for the Cure again this year. It is such a fun and inspiring race. I knew a woman, when I was a teenager, who was battling breast cancer. Since then, working in surgery, I have worked on many women who are battling, soon to find out they will be battling, or just in for a biopsy and wondering if they will fall in this category. I never imagined how many women are affected by this until I started working in surgery.

This is what is so inspiring, these two women are running for themselves. During the race there are thousands of people who have a paper stuck to their back saying they are running celebrating a loved one's survival, others say they are running in memory of their loved one.
I am a very slow runner and usually just accept the fact that I will come in close to last in races, but these were all the people behind me...

but there were still a bunch of people ahead of me! But I was nowhere near last! Whoot whoot

Yea for my hubs

Bill informed me on his awesome grades for this past semester! It was a rough semester because he missed a few classes for his dad's funeral and all the stress that he had to deal with while planning and traveling for it. He also had a few business trips that he had to do that messed with his studying and stress. His teacher was also really hard on the class and made them buy a new program that they never and will never use and pissed all the students off. This teacher has now resigned but my hubs still had to take the class before his resignation. He did so well, even with all these outside stresses along with everyday life. Next time you see him tell him how much he rocks! Whoot whoot About a year now and he will be DONE!!
